Shirase

PlayStyle: Aggressive, Mixup

Similar to: Aoi(Virtua Fighter), Akuma, Karin(Street Fighter)

Strengths: She has a strong mixup game with her Chugeki-Hoh having a overhead and low option unlike Hokuto. She has incredibly strong juggle options and momentum/corner carry from them. She benefits from having one of the best unique attacks in Gai-Shu, it has excellent range, and it's a great utility normal. She has one of the fastest and shortest jumps in the game making it more difficult to anti air and stop her pressure.

Weaknesses: Shirase lacks very little because her offensive toolkit is very strong. Her Chugeki-Hoh can be somewhat reactable and requires some conditioning to be effective. She lacks an attacking reversal option outside of super but it doesn't hurt her too much.

Play if: + You like a diverse tool kit
+ You like tons of combo creativity and high execution ceiling
+ You enjoy pressuring the opponent and making them second guess a lot

Avoid if: - You don't like not having a true reversal
                 - You don't like to commit to your pressure
                 - You don't want high execution combos

Recommended Gougi Decks: Aggro, Stealth Raptor, Shinobi, Berserker, Fantasista, Infinity, Babel

                                    Key Normals

Stand Medium Punch: Go to solid anti air and can easily combo into Chugeki-Hoh/Kiren-Eki. Shirase does end up standing so you have to be a bit quicker to anti air well. This is also a great meaty to catch people flinching as it's very active.

Stand Medium Kick: This is an excellent button to check dash in low with and to buffer into Kiren-Eki to whiff punish or counter poke an opponent. Kiren-Eki will combo at any range and this is excellent to use after the opponent tries to respond after blocking Gai-Shu as it's the perfect spacing to whiff punish.

Crouch Light Kick: Like Hokuto she can link from her Cr.MK into Cr.LK and get two chains worth of Cr.LK into Cr.Mk after a dash. Very fast like other Cr.LKs in the game.

Crouch Heavy Kick: Very punishable on block but can be cancelled into Gai-Shu to stay safe. This will also go under projectiles including her own Kiren-Eki and it has a lot of forward momentum. Very good to use as a kara-cancel normal.

Stand Heavy Kick: This normal is a swiss army knife for Shirase. It has huge range to counter poke, far range anti air, check dashes, buffer into super, to meaty with, and to add to chains from Cr.LK to cause a frame trap.

                                       Key Moves

Chugeki-Hoh: The regular punch follow up will be your go to punish ender as it combos into Rensho-Geki and will start her deadly juggle combo game. She can mixup with a low option that combos or an overhead that has a small gap. If the opponent blocks any option or it's follow up it is punishable but you have the threat of Kiren-Eki to cancel into to punish their punish attempt.

Shin: After inputting a kick button during Shinkyaku-Geki, Shirase like Hokuto gets access to a evasive back turn type of spin. This move is invincible on startup and during the spin but has recovery near the end that is punishable. This move is great for baiting wakeup reversals from your opponent and trying to escape pressure if the opponent leaves a gap. Be careful of skilled players that punish you for it.

Shorin-Geki: Her main way to continue juggles after a Rensho-Geki. An easier option to start with but you don't need much more unless you are going for jab dash cancels juggles. This move can also nullify projectile attacks and even absorb some supers as well like Allen's Fire Force.

Kirin-Eki: Her incredibly strong bow and arrow super that is basically safe on block outside of point blank range. This move can also be charged for more damage, hits, and pushback on block. It is a great wakeup and can also cause many favourable trades for Shirase as well as the projectile still comes out even if she is interrupted during the start up of this super.

                                 General Strategy

Shirase is best when attacking the opponent and using her mixup options from Chogeki-Hoh to open up the opponent, and once converting going into Rensho-Geki and getting high damage. Conditioning the opponent is key in being successful with her mixups as being too risky will get you punished more often than not by a skilled opponent. Learning strong combo juggle routes are important but also which option gives you the best potential to continue the momentum. It may depend on the deck but she can simply dominate most characters with a simple gameplan and using her jump to throw bait often.
