Throws

To throw someone in FEXL you press both light attack buttons together. They work very similar to many other fighting games.

There are two types of throws in FEXL, forward and back throw. Throws have a lot of priority in that they will grab attacks that are not invincible on the same frame. However the duration of a throw where it is effective is very short(active frames), so you must time your throws well.

Throws also have a lot of recovery when whiff, similar to the Killer Instinct (2013) games.

Teching Throws

You can tech a throw which is the act of stopping someone from throwing you by inputting throw at around the same time that you would have been thrown by the opponent. If you or the opponent is successful on a tech then both players will be granted a little bit of meter for doing so.

Baiting Throws

Since throws have a lot of recovery if you miss them, it is integral to bait and punish them in FEXL as it is a great and common way to open up the opponent's defense.

You can also use back dash (a bit difficult) and the push back of some normals to bait throws as well. Grounded shimmies are quite strong in FEXL aswell. A shimmy is where you walk into throw range and immediately walk out of that range to catch people attempting to throw tech.

Throws on Wakeup

FEXL is unique in many ways but something that calls back to older fighting games is that as you are getting up off the ground you are fully invincible to throws. This makes defense much stronger and wakeup not as scary as the defender.

Air Throws

Some characters in FEXL have access to an air throw. They can be used as an anti air or for punishing someone for neutral jumping too much attempting to bait your non existent whiffed throws.

You are also able to tech air throws even if your character does not have an air throw themselves. It's not that common but it can save you in a clutch situation.
